The New Water Supply Pipeline for the Town of Palermo [PE]

# 1998 Gothenburg

After a water supply crisis due to the age of the distribution system and insufficient sources of water, the Municipal Water Supply Co~npanyof Palermo (A.M.A.P.) decided in 1990 to proceed to the acquisition of a new "Preliminary Project of the water supply for the town of Palermo".
Four engineers (Cesare Arici, Gerardo Bonvissuto, Giuseppe Curto and Giovanni di Trapani) were approached for this purpose.

In the project - presented in September of the same year - the characteristic water diagrams for supply of the town were examined. The problems, the deficiencies and the inconveniences of the existing distribution pipeline were analysed and the targets to be achieved were indicated.

Big diameter polyethylene pipes used an important role due to superior performance (Flexibility, light weight, long lifetime and tighten joint) for water and industrial supply to several countries. However according to standard concerned Polyethylene pipes as like ISO4427 we are being used solid wall pipe with too...

Evolution of the Pipe Accelerated Notch Test – PANT-Method

Author(s) : Ph. Vanspeybroeck 2014 Chicago

As the resistance to notches of the new PE 100 RC materials continuously improves, the classical control methods - as mentioned in the product standards - of PE have to improve consequently. Indeed, the resin compound producers now have pipe qualities with notch resistance far beyond 1000 h. It was necessary to...

Polyethylene pipes are successful worldwide due to the superior performance (Flexibility, light weight, lifetime, tighten joint) for water and sewerage supply. However according to our ISO standard concerned Polyethylene pipes we have to use solid wall pipe with too thick against for internal pressure. The major job...

PE-GLASS FIBRE REINFORCED PIPE SYSTEMS DN 40 – 10 BAR ACCORDING TO ISO CD 29561 – NEW OPPORTUNITES FOR WATER SUPPLY

Author(s) : Jos Robeyns, Philippe Vanspeybroeck, Steve Sandstrum 2010 Vancouver

ISO CD 29561 applies to glass fibre reinforced polyethylene pipes and fittings intended to be used for the conveyance of water under pressure for general purposes, as well as for the supply of drinking water. The pipeline may be buried, above ground, or outside buildings. The temperature of the medium to be...

Since 1997 electrofusion welders have been evaluated in Belgium on continuous basis.Parallel during this decade, traceability according to ISO 12176-4 : “Plastics pipes and fittings - Equipment for fusion jointing polyethylene systems - Part 4: Traceability coding” has been introduced by the Belgium gas...

S4 Critical Pressure and Critical Temperature

Author(s) : Maeger, Vanspeybroeck, Lamborn, Mamoun, Leevers, Oliphant 2006 Washington DC

As polyethylene pressure pipes enter the global marketplace under an ever-wider range of operating conditions, there is increasing emphasis on their rapid crack propagation performance. It is important that both producers and end-users are able to rely on the robustness of the rapid crack propagation test results and...

EVALUATION OF THE S4 TEST (ISO 13477) FOR LARGE DIAMETER POLYETHYLENE PRESSURE PIPES.

Author(s) : J. Vienne, Ph. Vanspeybroeck 2004 Milan

Since the official introduction of the S4 test in several ISO and CEN standards, different test institutes have achieved experience in the RCP behaviour of polyethylene gas and water pipes. In most cases the S4 test is limited for smaller pipes up to a diameter 250 mm. This paper resumes the results recently obtained...

Molecular Oriented PVC and PVC-U Pipes for Pressure Applications in the Water

Author(s) : Robeyns, Vanspeybroeck 2004 Milan

Lifetime prediction of plastics piping systems plays an important key role when selecting new materials for pressure pipes. Practical experience during more than 50 years, demonstrates that PVC piping systems do not vanish after the lifetime as mentioned in the relevant national and international standards. PVC pipes...
