Bioriented PVC items show strongly improved mechanical properties versus standard PVC.

It is known that biorientation efficiency is related with PVC Molecular weight since very low molecular weight resins are not very suitable for biorientation.
Generally bioriented pipe processors recommend Kw > 64.
The target of this study is to quantify the relationship between the Kw (molecular weight) of the PVC and the properties obtained after biorientation 2. Preparation of the PVC plate samples PVC Plates were realised by roll milling and compression moulding.

This paper demonstrates the excellent recyclability of rigid PVC and the strong possibilities of incorporating recyclate into foamed PVC pipes. Calculations show that it is the availability of rigid PVC recyclate, partly due to the long service lives of PVC pipes, which is the limiting factor in further extending the...

2012 Barcelona : Influence of Molecular weight on the properties of molecularly oriented PVC

Bioriented pipes or plates show strongly improved mechanical properties compared with standard u-PVC. It is known that biorientation process is less efficient on PVC composition with lower molecular weight. The target of this study is to quantify the relationship between the molecular weight (Kw) of the composition...

Author(s) : Fumire

The level of gelation is a very important parameter in moulded PVC items since it will determine in a significant extent the mechanical properties of the item. Several methods have been developed already but none was widely used in processing plants except the Methylene Chloride test (MCT) which gives a pass/fail...
