Degradation of Plastics Pipes in a Tropical Climate

Miscellaneous # 1988 Bath

The degradation of plastic pipes in the domestic, industrial, and general purpose applications in Saudi Arabia are discussed. It is shown that the higher rate of failure of pipes exposed to natural weather results from elevated temperatures, and very high dose of total solar radiation received in the region. In addition improper manufacturing conditions, storage, and installation have also been cited as sources to contribute to rapid pipe failure rates.
