The use of polyethylene in pipe systems for the distribution of gas, water and other industrial applications has grown rapidly over recent years. The development of polyethylene compounds with ever improving combinations of toughness and flexibility has contributed to this success but the key factor has been the combination of advances at each point in the supply chain. Pipe extrusion and polyethylene fittings technology has advanced along with rapid developments in jointing and installation techniques. In assessing the future prospects, consideration is given to end use demand, refurbishment and substitution growth as well as technical development. Growth and new technology creates an increasing need to manage resources for maximum value creation.
