The principles underlying the concept of thermoplastically lined pipes for untreated well-head fluids, with particular reference to subsea applications, are first described. The prime sources of load on the lining are then identified as build-up of gas pressure in the pipe-lining annulus and swell of the lining. Since dissipation of the former is not straightforward. the possible effects of annulus pressure are studied under a ranee - of situations. and the implications for system design considered. The additional effects of lining swell on performance. due to fluid absorption and restrained thermal movements, on performance are then evaluated.
