The purpose of this research was to conduct a thorough evaluation of a structural reinforcing system (patch) for the repair and/or reinforcement of mechanically damaged polyethylene pipes in an effort to establish permanency of the repairs and determine the life expectancy. MDPE and HDPE pipe specimens with machined simulated defects were repaired and assessed by Rate Process Method (RPM) analysis by performing long-term hydrostatic pressure testing at various temperatures. Results obtained to date indicate that the repair patches are providing protection for the artificially induced damaged pipes.
