Plastics Gas Distribution Systems, A Review of Current Practice

Current practice and experience can give valuable information to those applying plastics to gas distribution systems for the first time. However, it is essential that this information only be applied with appreciation of the factors which should determine the choice of material and system for a particular situation.
The materials and design concepts of the available systems are described in the context of the current technical and economical requirements.
When a gas authority plans to use plastics for the first time for the initial laying, extension or renewing of a gas distribution system, it is obvious that valuable information will be obtained from the experience and current practice of those who have already made this step.
The gas authority, however, must be aware of the many and varied factors which have influenced the choice of a particular material or system, Each material has its characteristic properties which will determine its field of application and the design concepts of the system, Since this will be a compromise between material properties and design, the advantages and disadvantages of the system must be examined for each specific area of application.
