PE100 Pipes Joining in Coalbed Methane Industry in China

5 minute posters # 2014 Chicago

Being the largest coal production and consumption country in the world, China is also rich in coalbed methane (CBM) resources, and coalbed methane development was greatly expanded in the recent two years. In the course of this advancement, a solid joint was made between PE100 pipes and coalbed methane industry. PE100 pipes have various advantages compared with traditional metal pipe for gas and water transportation, such as light weighting, high flexibility, corrosion resistance, and easy for quick installation, so application of PE100 pipes in this industry can reduce the cost of coalbed methane development, gathering and transportation. However, compared with the widely application of PE100 pipes in the field of civil gas and water, considering the local site condition, inter-industry cooperation, uncovered pipe standard in China and other potential problems in the construction project, there are still so many efforts should be taken for plastic pipes industry to get effective application of PE100 pipes in the new emerging CBM industry. Bearing those issues in mind, this paper presents the general application of PE100 pipes as gas and water pipe in China coalbed methane industry at present and in the future, and our involvement in the standard development and pipe design, pipe and fitting testing and failure analysis of the pipe due to improper operating and special site condition, and also some case studies of the project construction are covered.
