Degradation of PVC Plain and Corrugated Pipes due to Weathering Conditions in Egypt

Plastics as engineering structural materials are becoming more and more popular in Egypt. In the present paper, the status of the on-going activities on weathering degradation of plastics pipes is presented. Two types of pipes are being considered, namely : (a) PVC plain pipes produced by the National Plastics Co.,and (b) PVC corrugated perforated pipes produced by the Eayptian Authority for Aqricultural Drainage. The effects of outdoor exposure for about a year and UV accelerated exposure on material properties and pipe performance, as determined from various mechanical tests are presented.
