Recycling & Environment # 2006 Washington DC
The process of extracting scrap plastics pipes from the demolition and construction waste stream in a major city is described together with a quantification of the proportion of the most common plastics pipe materials in the waste. The condition of the pipes and the methods used to turn them into a re-usable form is described. The pilot trial is now being expanded to recycle pipes in the 3 largest cities in Australia.
