Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 2014 Chicago

Li Yanjun

This article describes the general construction and different types of drainage system, including cast iron pipes and plastic pipes, plastic pipe commonly used are: hard PVC pipe (PVC-U), high density polyethylene pipe (PE-HD), polypropylene tube (PP), engineering plastics acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene (ABS) and so on. analyzes the causes and negative effects, including flow impact、pressure fluctuations、flow friction and noise generated by water appliances, introduces noise reduction technology at home and abroad, such as pipe wrapping, same floor drainage(SDF) system, selection of pipe material, using special single stack drainage system and damping fixed installations.

Noise can be reduced by controlling the flow, raising sound insulation capability and designing rational drainage systems. Since drainage system noise control is a systematic project, overall consideration should be taken on local condition and other factors in order to achieve economic and social harmony.

The noise in the civil buildings directly affects the normal work and life of people. The big noise may even endanger residents’ health. The noise produced by architectural water drainage system is one of the main sources of noise in the buildings. Especially the rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) pipes are widely applied in the water drainage system. The noise produced by the water drainage stand pipes has attracted more and more attention.
