Dr. Gerd Mannebach

With a new and innovative catalyst concept it is possible to produce a bi-modal PE-RT Type II material with excellent properties in a single reactor process. The catalyst is based on two different metallocene components, whereas one component doesn’t incorporate any co-monomer and the other component shows a typical homogenous comonomer distribution. A key characteristic of this catalyst system is the significant better FNCT performance at given weight average of molecular weight in comparison to bimodal products based on standard catalysts. The new PE-RT Type material combines increased flexibility, glossy surface and low creep at elevated temperatures.

Bi- or multi-modal Polyethylene resins from cascade processes are well established in pipe applications. With a new and innovative catalyst concept it is possible to produce such HDPE materials with excellent properties from a single reactor process. With this catalyst approach a new PE-RT Type II material has been developed, responding to customer needs for the combination of properties like high flexibility, shiny surface, low creep at elevated temperatures and high FNCT performance.
