PVC O pipes : an economical & environmental analysis for water companies and pipe manufacturers. The global crisis has brought new challenges to the water industry. Meanwhile investments in water are nearly unavoidable to maintain or increase the living quality; the real situation is that water companies, either publics or private, are as stressed as all other kind of companies in the world. It is so, that the need of water infrastructure is forcing to lower cost products and installation cost, transmitting the pressure on prices on installers and pipe manufacturers. At the same time, worldwide the threat of climate change has pushed many governments to define its policy looking for more ecological, environmental friendly solutions on every activity. It´s really difficult to find solutions that combine better performance, cost reduction and lower CO2 emissions. PVC O pipes are today perhaps the solution that better fits this difficult equation. Astonished increment in mechanical properties enables a less consumption of raw material maintaining the same performance, and this is affecting positively to all the players in the water industry. Less material means less oil consumption, together with a higher flow capacity in the same pipe, and more efficiency for pipe installers. Last generation of PVC O technologies allow simple transformations of standard PVC U lines into PVC O lines, bringing extreme savings for pipe manufacturers, and large benefits for potential pipe customers and end users that will welcome this high class and environmental friendly solution in this global challenging situation.

Author(s) : Ignacio Muñoz 2018 Las-Vegas

During the last years PVC-O has become a popular product in pipe business due to the huge improvements of mechanical properties of PVC after orientation. At the same time, CPVC has become an important choice for hot water conduits in in-house applications. Molecor has started a research program to evaluate the...

EVALUATION AND COMPARISON OF STANDARD AND ACCELERATED SLOW CRACK GROWTH DETERMINATION METHODOLOGIES: EFFECT OF THE COMONOMER TYPE INFLUENCE

Author(s) : Carlos Domínguez, Álvaro Pérez, Nuria Robledo, Cristina González, Beatriz Paredes, Rafael A. García-Muñoz 2018 Las-Vegas

Last methodologies for fast evaluation of the SCG resistance on polyethylene pipe materials are analyzed in this work and compared with traditional PENT and FNCT tests. Strain Hardening (SH), Crack Round Bar (CRB) and Accelerated Creep Test (ACT) will be good alternatives for evaluating PE100RC resins. Moreover, SH...

LIMITS ON THE SLOW CRACK GROWTH RESISTANCE EVALUATION FOR THE PE100 AND PE100RC POLYETHYLENE RESINS

Author(s) : Carlos Domínguez, Nuria Robledo, Rafael A. García-Muñoz 2016 Berlin

With the last advances and improvements in the polyethylene resins used for pipe application, new methods for evaluating long-term mechanical properties need to be introduced. Standard PENT and FNCT tests needs more than one year for characterizing the new PE100RC grades with the consequent thermal ageing problems....

WHAT'S NEW ON PVC?

Author(s) : Ignacio Muñoz 2016 Berlin

Along the years, plastic pipes have become a main solution for water transportation and distribution, gaining market share to the traditional materials. Anyway, and considering our current situation as “stable”, we could clearly see that there is a trend of applications where materials have a significant market...

NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN PVC-O

Author(s) : Ignacio Muñoz 2012 Barcelona

The present global crisis has pushed the need for efficient, reliable and affordable solutions for water transportation. The interest of pipe manufacturers in PVC-O as one of the most cost effective solutions has increased, but at the same time new demands for widening the range of applications and overcoming...
